A Guide to Organising Your Closet
When you already have to dig through a pile of stuff just to find two matching shoes or perhaps a clean shirt, then it is about time that you make some sense out of the disarray. If you are clueless about how to organise your closet, let the steps below serve as your guide.
Before you begin undertaking such a project, make sure that you have plenty of time to clear and sort through everything in your closet. Remember that this chore could easily take one full day. Begin by taking everything out of this particular storage unit and putting things that belong somewhere else in a separate box.
Next, make a mental note to sort each piece of clothing into specific piles. Worn-out and stained garments should be thrown while those in good condition, although you never wear them anymore, should be donated to charity.
Third, ensure that your closet has plenty of room for the remaining articles of clothing that you want to keep there. Increase your storage options by adding more hanging rods, shelves, and storage bins. You can find all these implements at hardware or container stores. Dispose of old wire hangers and purchase some of the wooden and much stronger plastic alternatives. The latter are for your clothes and will make your closet more aesthetically appealing and orderly.
Finally, when returning all of your remaining items back to the closet, group them first according to type. You can start by placing all of your pants together, short-sleeved shirts, dresses, and so on. Or you can opt to separate them by use, such as work clothes, casual attire, or ensembles for special occasions. Meanwhile, store out-of-season clothes in totes so they will not take up much needed space in your closet.
